How to prepare ILR materials? Application checklist and timeline
At the appeal stage, one applicant's residency duration calculation has been corrected, but the permanent residency application remains unsuccessful. The records of the Upper Tribunal case IA/32779/2014 in 2016: the party applied for permanent residency through the then Tier 1 (General) route, but the required documents were not recognized as submitted, and sections such as the income calculation period in the form were also not filled out. The evidence rules of the old case cannot be directly applied today, but the document list and the answers in the form need to be verified synchronously.
My judgment is: files can be organized in advance, but documents with date requirements should be updated around the expected submission date, and it's not advisable to have them all issued several months in advance.
ILR Basic materials are filed first
Put the current passport or travel documents, old passports required by the route, current identity information and previous visa notification letters into the identity folder; address change, entry and exit dates and corresponding proof into the residence folder; applicable English proof, Life in the UK pass record or exemption basis into the qualification folder. This grouping is a preparation method, and the specific upload items should still be verified against the personal route and application system list. For spouses and children, separate relationship proof and materials for each applicant. Chinese documents should be accompanied with complete and verifiable translations; when scanning, retain the entire page, page numbers and seals, and attach explanations and references for documents with different name spellings.
After the folder is set up, you can verify the additional documents required for each route.
Take the road you are going, and supplement the corresponding group.
| Common Routes | Key Materials |
|---|---|
| Skilled Worker | Employer confirmation that the position continues to be needed, with salary meeting the required level, as well as the requested proof of wages and income. |
| Spouse's Family Route | Relationship, cohabitation and applicable financial and housing proof; each has evidence requirements for salary, savings, and self-employment income. |
| Ten years of continuous residence in | All passports held during the stay in the UK, current identity documents, and organized records of legal residency and absence. |
The application guidelines for each route of the UK government list the corresponding requirements. Individual circumstances may require additional documents. After obtaining the system list, you can list the file names, coverage periods, and pending contents item by item. Proofs that have not yet been obtained should also record the issuing authorities.
The date of the certificate must also match.
The current "Immigration Rules" Appendix FM-SE paragraph 1(l) has a detail that is easy to overlook: for the specified evidence required by this appendix, the part with the most recent date in the document or a set of documents shall not be earlier than 28 days before the application date. When organizing historical records, it is still necessary to retain complete records during the specified period, while checking the date of the latest one. This restriction has specific scope, and long-term documents such as marriage certificates are not necessarily required to be re-issued because of this.
The application date here is calculated as the submission date for ordinary online domestic applications; the biological information collection appointment date will not extend the material date requirements, according to paragraph 34G(3).
Timeline is arranged around the submission date.
I recommend starting to check for missing documents three months in advance: confirm the applicable route, qualification period and license expiration date, organize historical documents, arrange for any required exams, translations, and relationship certification. For existing certificates, you can first verify their validity; for documents that need to be issued by banks, schools or employers, clarify the processing methods in advance. This is the arrangement for preparing materials, and the lead time is not a legal term; the duration for which income and residence proof are required should still follow the corresponding rules.
One month before submission, you can update documents with time-sensitive requirements; if the expected submission date changes, check the document dates and coverage periods again.
Before officially submitting, compare the form answers with the supporting documents item by item, and check that the passport number, income period, family members, and uploaded documents are consistent. After submission, save a copy of the application, list of materials, and upload confirmation, and complete identity verification and additional document submission as notified by the system. The UKVCAS from the UK government allows online uploading of documents or scanning at the appointment; the method used will be based on the arrangement provided in your application process.
