After waiting for 5 years, I finally saved up enough to qualify for permanent residence, but I was told that "the standard processing takes 6 months"? For Chinese people who are in a hurry to change jobs, return home to visit relatives, or apply for a visa before the expiration date, this six-month waiting period is simply a torment.
The good news is that the British Home Office provides the Super Priority Service (Super Accelerated Channel), which allows permanent residence applicants to get a decision on the next working day after submitting biometric information (fingerprints + photos) - in theory, it can be done within 24 hours. But in reality, many people paid money but did not enjoy the service, and even the trial was delayed due to operational errors.
In today’s article, we use the latest data of GOV.UK + real cases to dismantle the correct way to open Super Priority, as well as 4 scenarios where is most likely to overturn.
1. What exactly is Super Priority? Is it worth 1,000 pounds?
Super Priority Service allows you to receive a decision before the end of the next working day after submitting your biometric information: if the appointment is on a working day, the results will be available before get off work the next day; if the appointment is on the weekend, the results will be available within 2 working days. Working days are defined as Monday to Friday, excluding UK public holidays (Bank Holidays).
compared to standard channel:
· Standard permanent residence review: usually 6 months
· Priority Service (normal acceleration): £500, results will be available in 5 working days
· Super Priority Service: £1,000, results will be available the next working day
The fee for the permanent residence application itself has risen to £3,226 (from 8 April 2026), plus the £1,000 for Super Priority, the total cost per person is more than £4,200. If a family of three took this route, the government fees alone would exceed £12,000.
Under what circumstances is it worth spending the money?
- My current visa is about to expire and I don’t have time to wait for 6 months.
- Urgent need to return to China to deal with family emergencies (parents are seriously ill, real estate transactions, etc.)
- New job offers require proof of permanent residence status as soon as possible
- My mental capacity is limited and I don’t want to live in the state of “Schrödinger’s permanent residence” for half a year.
But please note: Super Priority does not guarantee that it will be faster - if your case is complex and the Ministry of Interior needs to supplement materials or verify information from other government departments, the processing time may still be extended. This £1,000 buys "priority", not "included insurance".
2. Battle for seats: How to grab the Super Priority spot?
Super Priority The biggest threshold is not money, but the scarcity of places. You must go to a UKVCAS center to book an appointment, you cannot use the ID Check App – the Super Priority service is not available to App users.
The quota is released every day at around 1 am (UK time), and during peak periods (such as the permanent residence season in April each year), they are all taken up within a few minutes. Many Chinese people complained that "they clearly saw the Super Priority option, but when they paid, it showed it was full."
practical skills:
- Complete the online application form in advance: Don’t wait until you want to make an appointment to fill in the form. Enter the appointment system immediately after filling out the form.
- sets alarm clock to stay in : Start refreshing UKVCAS appointment page at 12:50 am, click on time at 1:00
- alternative date : If there are no seats on the preferred date, immediately switch to the next day or other city center
- Credit card ready : Bank transfers or checks are not accepted during the payment process. Payment must be made online with a credit/debit card. Corporate cards may require bank pre-authorization.
If you really can’t get one, consider asking a licensed lawyer for help – some law firms have cooperation channels with UKVCAS, but they will charge extra (usually £200-500).
3. 4 scenarios where a car is most likely to roll over (real cases)
❌ Scenario 1: Using ID Check App, the system automatically cancels Super Priority
Case: Mr. Zhang chose to use the mobile app to upload his identity information for convenience. When making payment, he did not notice that it had been automatically downgraded to standard processing. After waiting for 3 months, I found out that the £1,000 had not been refunded.
Lesson from : Super Priority must go to the UKVCAS center to have their fingerprints recorded in person, and cannot use the App. If you choose App, even the normal Priority (5 days) cannot be used. Be sure to select "Attend a UKVCAS service point" when applying.
❌ Scenario 2: Incomplete materials, kicked out of the fast track
Case: Ms. Li’s overseas travel records for three business trips were not shown in the system, and the Ministry of the Interior required a supplementary employer certification letter. The case is removed from the Super Priority queue, the hearing time is changed back to the standard process, and the £1,000 is non-refundable.
Lesson: The Ministry of Interior will only refund if the delay is caused by its own technical or administrative errors; if there is a problem with the applicant’s materials, the acceleration fee will not be refunded. Don’t take any chance of “paying money first and then providing materials later”. ——Super Priority is suitable for applicants with perfect materials and simple cases.
❌ Scenario 3: Criminal record/complex immigration history, fast to slow
Case: Mr. Wang had a drunk driving record 10 years ago (the case has been closed), but the Ministry of Interior needed to contact the police for verification, and the case was marked as "requires further review". Although it was finally approved, it took 5 weeks, far exceeding the 24-hour commitment.
Lessons: If you have a criminal record, a complicated immigration history (such as being successful after multiple rejections), or have used multiple passports, the Ministry of Interior may require an interview or cross-department verification. In this case, the "24 hours" of Super Priority is only a theoretical value, and may actually be slower than the standard process (because the fast-track judges are more cautious).
💡 suggestion: If you know that your case is not simple, it is better to take the standard route honestly and save the £1,000 to find a lawyer to review the materials.
❌ Scenario 4: Mistakenly believing that you can "upgrade afterwards"
case: Ms. Zhao chose the standard channel when she submitted the application. Two weeks later, she suddenly received an emergency business trip notice. She wanted to temporarily add money to upgrade to Super Priority, but was told that it was impossible.
lesson: acceleration service must be selected at the same time when paying the application fee, and cannot be upgraded afterwards. If you have any situation where you may need to make a quick decision (even if it's just "maybe"), it is recommended to choose Super Priority directly - the standard channel does not refund the price difference anyway.
4. Which permanent residence paths can use Super Priority?
Not all permanent residence applications can be expedited. Generally speaking, Skilled Worker, Global Talent, and Spouse Visa (5-year transfer to permanent residence) can be used; however, Innovator Founder, Overseas Company Representative, and Refugee Status Transfer to Permanent Residence usually cannot.
Human rights applications (FLR(HRO)) and family life applications (FLR(FP)) cannot use Super Priority if the current visa has expired.
practical advice: When fills out the online application form, the system will automatically display whether you are eligible for the accelerated service. If you can't see the option, it means your visa type is not supported - don't waste time looking for "scalpers" at this time, just wait for the standard process.
5. After getting the decision, what is the next step?
A decision email will be sent to your registered email address, and your eVisa (digital visa) will be automatically updated to your UKVI account. The UK no longer issues physical BRP cards and all permanent residence status is digital.
Remember to log in to the View and Prove Your Immigration Status page of GOV.UK as soon as possible to generate your share code. This code can be used by employers, landlords, and banks to verify your permanent residence status.
If you need to accurately calculate your countdown to permanent residence, the number of days to leave the country, or the safe time window for your next return to the UK, you can use 永居计算器 APP ( https://justiscript.com/ilr) - it can help you calculate to the day and avoid the tragedy of being rejected because of a difference of 1 day.
Final words: acceleration is not a panacea
Super Priority can indeed shorten the waiting time significantly, but it cannot replace 's solid material preparation and and 's clear immigration history. Expedited service does not increase approval rates – it only speeds up denials if there are issues with your application itself.
If you are not sure whether your case is suitable for the fast track or whether the materials are ready, it is recommended to seek a free consultation with a licensed lawyer (our lawyer’s WeChat: uklvshi, email: [email protected]). After all, a £1,000 acceleration fee isn’t cheap, so it’s time to spend it wisely.
